This was a tribute painting. Esther was a Mother, restaurant cook and an immigrant. She worked hard, as so many new immigrants do, to provide for her family and to become educated on the culture of her new country. She learned a new language and she climbed the ladder of success at the same time. Esther was shot and killed at a stop light while driving her children to school. It was a random murder.
The painting itself was the 2nd attempt. The 1st painting didn’t work out and there was no image after burning the metal to the 1,000 plus degrees fahrenheit. This 2nd attempt was magical. It was exciting to watch the metal slowly turn colors and reveal this beautiful face. Truly magical.
